Founded in 1997, Star Alliance is now the largest airline alliance worldwide comprising 26 airlines giving it global status, Spanair being one of them.

An alliance offering over 19.500 flights daily to 1.050 destinations in 175 countries, besides the advantages of the support of this great alliance. Thus Spanair members apart from enjoying all the programme advantages can also accrue points on flights operated by all the Star Alliance member airlines and redeem them for plane tickets, hotel nights and car rentals.
Point accrual on Star Alliance and Spanair flights as Alliance member, is based on miles flown, route and Class Booked (*).
To consult particular conditions for point accrual as per companies, consult the section of Star Alliance and each partner’s conditions.

Conditions of point use with Star Alliance companies.
Tickets charged to points for Star Alliance flights will be subject to the following conditions:
- Use table is applicable to all flights involving one or more Star Alliance companies. Different companies can be combined within the same journey.
- All prizes are for round-trips. One-way Journeys require same amount of points as round-trips.
- Return journey can start from a different spot to destination (angulated trip, open jaws). For open jaw between different regions, the highest level points will be applied.
- It is impossible to make combinations with different service classes. The level of points for the highest service class used will be applied throughout the journey.
- A stopover (stop over 24h) is allowed on international flights indistinctly on outgoing or incoming journey.
- A flight charged to points can include maximum (6) segments (three maximum per direction).
- Flights must be via most direct route possible. Making a stopover when there is a direct route means applying the point tariff corresponding to a Non-Direct Flight. (e.g. a flight Madrid-Philadelphia via Frankfurt with US Airways, is considered a Non-direct flight, since a direct flight is possible).
- Extra charges / cancellations / tariff changes may be applied depending on flight operator.
- Shared code operated flights with other non-Star Alliance member airlines are not valid for point use.
- Some countries listed in the geographical region definition or some connections between regions may not be Star Alliance airline operated flights. If there are no direct flights between two regions, consult with Spanair Plus Service for routes allowed.
- For flights charged to points made only with Spanair and/or non-Star Alliance member associated companies, individual tables applied.
Addition conditions for round the world flights.
Flight routes must follow a continuous direction which maybe east or west. Backwards flights are not allowed unless itinerary so requires.
- 10 stopovers (exceeding 24h) maximum allowed, but not twice in the same city.
- Total travelling distance must not exceed 35,000 miles.
- Maximum number of sectors allowed 12.
- Open jaw allowed.
- Return must not be beyond city of origin.
- Ticket validity: Minimum 10 days, maximum 1 year.
