July 2008
Egypt Airlines joins the world alliance as of 11th July. This connection will bring great benefits not only to the Alliance but also Spanair and all the Spanair Plus programme members.
This adhesion enables geographical expansion of the alliance widening its destination horizon worldwide. Egypt is on of the countries with largest growth in the world. Furthermore, they are gradually consolidating themselves as the gateway to the Middle East and Northern Africa. It is also one of the most important aviation markets in Africa given its privileged location.
EgyptAir is based in Cairo as Egypt’s national airline. It incorporates nine additional airports, operating regular services to 70 destinations in Europe, Africa, Middle East, Far East, US and Canada, not to mention their domestic flights. The airline attends both business and pleasure needs, the former being in constant growth.
Star Alliance already had South African Airways, the African continent’s leading airline, and now with EgyptAir, the alliance has a second line, which apart from operating a wider destination network outside Africa, it is also member of the Arabian Air Transport Organisation. From now on all Star Alliance members flying to Europe will be located in the Terminal 3 of Cairo International Airport, to provide better means and make connections quicker.
