Information for Spanair customers travelling between the European Union and the United States

Important notice: A new regulation for passengers travelling to the US came into effect on 12 January 2009 obliging all passengers to fill in an online application form. It applies to all passengers visiting the US for less than 90 days. It must be completed 72 hours before the departure of your flight. This application will be valid for up to two years or until the passenger's current passport expires.

For further information and to obtain the application form click here.

US legislation obliges airlines flying to or from the US to provide the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) of the US Department of Homeland Security with certain details of passengers to increase the security of flights and of the United States. Spanair S.A. must meet these requirements. The European Commission has established that the CBP has a suitable level of protection that allows the transfer of data from your booking to the US. The fundamental objective of gathering information on your booking is to ensure the security of travel between the EU and the US and to safeguard US security.

Therefore, the CBP uses data on the Passenger Name Registration (PNR) for flights between the EU and the US in order to prevent and fight against terrorism and other serious international crimes. These and other data can be used for contrasting with the list of passenger who may be a threat for airline security. The information from your booking will be kept for three years and six months and will be shared with other authorities if necessary.
