Can a child travel unaccompanied?
Children between 5 and 12 years can travel unaccompanied but they must book the Spanair service “Assistance for unaccompanied minor”. This service is optional for children between 12 and 15 years.

Yes, Spanair has an assistance service for children between the age of 12 and 15 (both included) who are travelling alone.
Can under-18s accompany another child?
No, Article 157 of Spanish Civil Code states that minors (under 18 years of age) cannot be responsible for another child.
Does Spanair have a special room for children travelling alone?
Spanair has a special room for unaccompanied minors in the transit area at Madrid’s airport when their connecting Spanair flight departs a few hours after the arrival of their flight. The room is equipped with a television, games etc, and the children are supervised by Spanair staff at all times.

Booking
To book the assistance for unaccompanied minor service for children between the age of 5 and 12, please contact Spanair Center. Children between the age of 12 and 15 can book at spanair.com by selecting the adult passenger option and subsequently contact Spanair Center to book the service.
Remember that the assistance for unaccompanied minor service is compulsory for children between the age of 5 and 12 and optional for children between 12 and 15 years.
Travel documents
To avoid any problems, passengers should make sure they have all the required documents. Here is a list of the required and recommended travel documents that passengers must have with them on the day of the flight. All documents except those marked as recommended must be shown.
• Flight ticket or booking confirmation.
• Booking confirmation for the assistance for unaccompanied minor service.
• Assistance for unaccompanied minor form. (1)
• Parental or guardian’s authorisation that the child is travelling unaccompanied.
• Allergy list (recommended).
• Contact information for persons delivering and collecting the child.
(1) The assistance for unaccompanied minor form can be obtained at any of our offices. You may also print out the form and complete it for presentation at check-in. 4 copies are required for direct flights and 6 for non-direct flights.
Check-in
Check-in early to ensure that you have plenty of time to be able to calmly say goodbye to your child. Remember that you must hand in the completed and signed assistance for unaccompanied minor form.
Departure
Our ground crew will accompany your child from the entrance of the departures area to the aircraft. You must not leave the airport until your child's flight has taken off, in case it is delayed or cancelled.
On board
The Spanair cabin crew will give your child extra special attention so that his/her flight is as pleasant as possible.
Arrival
On arrival, your child will be accompanied from the aircraft to the arrival hall where he/she will be collected by the person named for this by the parent/guardian. We ask for identification of the person collecting your child to ensure it is the person you have asked to meet him/her.
