Spanair renews its IOSA certification

The company becomes the first Spanish airline to renew its IATA Operational Safety Audit certificate

Madrid, the 21st of June 2007

Spanair has officially renewed its registration as an IOSA carrier (IATA Operational Safety Audit), having successfully passed on the total of over 900 requirements and recommended practices included in the operational safety audit, which was performed at the beginning of the year by the German company Aviation Quality Services GmbH (AQS) and officially closed on the 16th of April.

The company will therefore continue over the next 2 years to comply with its flight quality and safety policy, having become the first Spanish carrier to have renewed its certification; adding its name to those of over 150 prestigious international carriers, including all the Star Alliance member carriers and the SAS Group airlines.

The IOSA programme was launched by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) in 2003, and recognises the importance of quality and safety assurance in air operations by means of a series of elements, practices and principles common to the different regions, legal systems and competent authorities worldwide. The standards (ISM – IOSA Standards Manual) with which we comply with are available on the IATA web page.

The IOSA audit verifies the processes and procedures of all organizational and operational areas that directly or indirectly affect safety in flight operation: corporate organization and management, flight dispatch, flight operation, aircraft engineering and maintenance, on-board operations, airport operations and the safety and transportation of goods.

Furthermore, the IOSA was designed to conform to the most demanding requirements of the European (EASA /JAA) and North American (FAA) aeronautical authorities, as well as to certain international civil aviation organisation (ICAO) requirements.

The following website contains further information on this programme http://iata.org/ps/services/iosa/.

“Since commencing operations, safety has been one of our biggest commitments, and we are therefore very proud to belong to the growing community of IOSA registered carriers” stated Gonzalo Pascual Arias, President of Spanair.

Spanair was founded in 1986 and offers more than 600 daily flights, operated with a fleet of 65 aircraft and in code share with its partners, to 241 destinations. Since April 2003, Spanair is a member of Star Alliance, the largest and most prestigious airline network in the world.
